Each year students from across the country participate in the VFW Auxiliary’s Art Contests. There are two contests held annually for grades K – 8 and 9 – 12.
 
Illustrating America
Grades K to 8
Who is Eligible to Apply?
Open to all students in grades K-8 who are enrolled in a public, private, parochial or home study program in the United States.  Visit National VFW Auxiliary Illustrating America Page
  • Student must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
  • Does not have to be related to a VFW or VFW Auxiliary member to participate, but the student must attend school in the same state as the sponsoring VFW Auxiliary.
What is the Contest Prize Amount?
Grades K-2, Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8 levels each offer 1st Place $100 Gift Card, 2nd Place $50 Gift Card and 3rd Place $25 Gift Card

Young American Creative Patriotic Art
Grades 9 to 12
Each year, more than 3,500 high school students from across the country participate in the VFW Auxiliary’s Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. The contest began in 1979 to recognize up-and-coming artists and encourage patriotism in youth. Visit National VFW Auxiliary Patriotic Art Page
Who is Eligible to Apply?
Any student in grades 9-12 who is enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States.
  • Maximum student age of 18 at time of local entry.
  • Student must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
  • Applicant does not have to be related to a VFW or VFW Auxiliary member to participate, but the student must attend school in the same state as the sponsoring VFW Auxiliary.
What is the Scholarship Amount?
The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $37,000.
Our local post winners will receive awards of $1,000, $750 and $500 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

3-Dimensional Patriotic Art
Grades 9 to 12
The VFW National Auxiliary is pleased to present this National Scholarship to assist students who wish to further their education. This scholarship contest recognizes young artists and encourages patriotism in youth. Entries will be judged on originality of concept, presentation and patriotism expressed, content of how it relates to patriotism and clarity of ideas, design technique, total impact of work. Visit National VFW Auxiliary Patriotic Art Page
Who is Eligible to Apply?
Students in grades 9-12 by the March 31 deadline who are enrolled in a public, private, parochial, or home school program in the United States, its territories and possessions, or dependents of U.S. military or civilian personnel in overseas schools.
  • Although U.S. citizenship is not required, students must be lawful U.S. permanent residents or have applied for permanent residence (the application for which has not been denied) and intends to become a U.S. citizen.
  • Student does not have to be related to a VFW or VFW Auxiliary member to participate.
  • Foreign exchange students, students age 20 or older, GED and adult education students, or National winners of previous 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contests are NOT eligible.
What is the Scholarship Amount?
VFW Auxiliary National Scholarships 
First place - $2,500 
Second place - $1,500 
Third place - $1,000 
Fourth place - $500 
Local Amounts
Our local winners will receive awards of $1,000, $750 and $500 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
